Test conditions

Real field test

Machine type

John Deere 8R 370

Towed implement

Gregoire Besson 6-furrow plough

Location and date

Felsőszentiván

Target travel speed

9.6 km/h

Original software – measured fuel consumption

27.7L/ha

Flat ground

30.4L/ha

Uphill

24.5L/ha

Downhill

Values recorded under identical, comparable load conditions. The optimized engine control software aims to reduce specific consumption and engine load while keeping work output unchanged.

Test methodology

Test procedure

  • Comparison of work and fuel consumption results between the original and the optimized engine control software content.
  • Direction of travel: moving west to east across the area.
  • The first three quarters of the area is moderately compacted soil, the last quarter is heavily compacted, high-load ground.
  • The comparison was carried out on the first three quarters: travelling flat, uphill and downhill.

Measured saving

Fuel saving per hectare

−3.5L/ha

Flat ground

−4.2L/ha

Uphill

−2.2L/ha

Downhill

+1 km/h average speed

Calculated with the plough working width, more hectares worked in the same time compared to the original software.

Better ploughing quality

Thanks to the higher speed, smaller clods formed on the ploughed area — better work quality.

Summary of results

Lower consumption, more balanced engine load

3–3.5 L/ha

reduction in specific consumption

60–70 litres / day

fuel saving

10–15 %

lower engine load

Thanks to the balanced engine torque, the machine did not shift down from 12th gear and holds the selected speed — no need for gear changes under load, which spares the driveline components.

The result is also measurable in terms of daily hectares worked via JD Link — depending on load and field conditions.
